Sønderborg International School

Our classrooms are calm, our expectations are clear and our students are taken seriously.

A small school based on community

We are proud to be part of a small Danish town, while preparing students for an international future.

A school for every child

We welcome both Danish and international families. English is the general language of instruction, but Danish culture and everyday life remain a natural part of who we are.

What Guides our Teaching?

1. Children need clarity

They learn best when expectations are clear and the school day has structure and rhythm.

2. Work should be steady and meaningful

We focus on strong subject knowledge and careful progress over time, looking at the individual needs and learning styles.

3. Respect goes both ways

We treat our students as young people who deserve to be heard and taken seriously.

4. Support and challenge belong together

Our students are helped when they need it and stretched when they are ready.

5. Calm matters

A quiet, orderly environment helps everyone concentrate and feel secure.

6. We have an important job

Education is an important matter and we work closely with families to help each child do their best.

Learning in English

eaching takes place in English, with lessons in Danish as a first language and German as a second language.

For international families, this provides continuity.

For Danish families, it means children use English naturally every day.

At the same time, we make sure students stay connected to the local culture, so they feel at home both here and abroad.

Preparing for Exams

n the upper years, students prepare for the Cambridge IGCSE examinations and FP9 in Danish.

We guide them carefully through the process and help them build strong subject understanding, good study habits and confidence in exams.

Our aim is readiness, so they leave us prepared for the next step.

Choosing the Right School

Choosing a school is an important decision for any family. We try to be open and straightforward about who we are and what we expect, so you can decide whether our school feels right for your child. Families are always welcome to visit, meet us and see the school during a normal day.

In the end, a school should not only look right on paper: it should feel right when you walk through the door.
